Music makers is a company owned by John McGurk, I started the company after developing my hobby in woodwork. I have always had an interest in crafts, spending many years perfecting my skills. I began making crafts such as photo frames, jewellery Boxes, Rabbit sculptures and small ornaments. I still design all different types of woodwork and take many orders for one off personal pieces which my clients love, but my real passion lies in creating musical instruments. I discovered a music making book, which taught me the craft of producing one off musical instruments. The very first instrument I designed was a violin, after which I made two more. I take pride in everything I create while keeping my clients specifications at the forefront of my mind, producing instruments which are of the highest quality to create the best possible sound and an elegant finish. A client who had heard of my expertise commissioned me to carve a harp. The client, who was a professional harp player, was incredibly impressed with how magnificent the instrument looked and how perfect the tone was. The harp was tailored to meet the clients specification with a chosen design along the side, and the clients initials engraved at the base. The finish of the harp was truly immaculate and one of my finest pieces. I have since been commissioned to carve guitars, all of which have a soft and gentle sound and, again, a beautiful and personal finish with a Celtic design engraving and black ebony on the back.
