Lessons are held in my home in Belfast, and are relaxed and friendly.
I will teach you to play the music you want to play.
Instruments
- Piano (and keyboards)
- Guitar (acoustic and electric)
- Bass Guitar
Ages and abilities I have students of all ages (the youngest is five). A comfortable chair is provided for parents! About half of my students are adult, (some beginners and others advanced).
Qualifications The Associated Board of the Royal School of Music offer examinations three times a year. There are eight Grades for Performance and for Music Theory. I will help you choose which Grades to go for, and take you through the study and practice.
For electric guitarists there is the Trinity International Examinations Board RockSchool graded programme.
Learning for Fun If you don't want to bother with exams then you can just bring along CDs, sheet music, or tabs of your favourite music, and we can work from those.
Specialised Tutoring For those interested in writing their own music, we can look at the history and underlying structure of the type of music you want to write, (whether it is a pop song, a string quartet, or whatever). I can give advice on getting a band together: what you need, and what you need to avoid.
Technology I can help you choose the equipment to use, and tutor you in music software, e.g. Sibelius, Cubase, ProTools.
Philosophy Tutoring also available I also tutor philosophy to A Level, degree level, and for personal development. Contact me for more details. You may also enrol in my classes at the Institute of Lifelong Learning at Queen’s University Belfast.
