Reconnect: Prehistoric Tours We are a small, friendly company operating day tours to prehistoric monuments in Northern Ireland. These introductory tours leave from Belfast and visit a range of places such as stone circles, dolmens, sweat houses, souterrains. These are part of the history which has shaped us. There are many theories about them and their use and - you never know - your historical imagination could make a contribution to our understanding of these unsolved mysteries! The organisation and transport are right up to date but the tours are about venturing into these mysterious remains of our ancestors' creations. They are mostly in stone, some above the earth, some below. Allow your imagination the chance to experience some of the power and energies around these sites which testify to the many peoples who have crossed the face of this island. Allow this rich heritage of Northern Ireland, frequently bypassed and unseen, to come vividly to life. Enjoy to the full these remarkable features of the Irish landscape. Some of these megalithic monuments, such as the dolmens, court tombs and wedge tombs date from the Stone Age, when the glaciers of the Ice Age had retreated from Ireland and the Bronze Age, which followed it (2000BC until 500BC). We know extraordinarily little about the function of such megalithic sites and monuments and the customs surrounding them. History is a series of known recorded events but these mysterious monuments have survived from prehistory which consists mainly of guesses , helped by scientific methods. Were these monuments functioning lunar laboratories capable of predicting lunar eclipses? Were they aligned with underground water courses? Were they religious ritual sites? There are many unsolved mysteries around them! |
