How can Counselling or Supervision help me?
A counsellor/supervisor aims to help you gain a perspective about whatever is troubling you. Together we identify what might be stopping you from reaching your full potential and what action you need to take to improve your situation. Counsellors are trained to look beyond presenting problems to possible underlying causes. The aim of the counselling process is to help you understand and accept yourself, to change your behaviour to that which is more productive for you and to help you move towards becoming the kind of person you want to be.

Therapeutic process
I offer prospective clients an Assessment Interview to determine whether we wish to work together. If so, we then arrange to meet for an agreed number of sessions. At the end of the sessions we have a review session to jointly assess progress. Sessions last for 50 minutes and if you are late arriving we still terminate at the usual time so as not to delay the next person.

My approach
I work integratively as I do not believe there is one model of counselling/supervision everyone as each person is an individual. I aim to be sensitive to the cultural and ethnic origins of individuals and to people's religious beliefs and sexual orientation.

Training and Code Of Ethics
I hold a Higher Diploma in Counselling, am an accredited counsellor with the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and have EMDR specialised training in Trauma. I adhere to the IACP and BACP Ethics for Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Supervision
Good therapeutic practice requires that the regular supervision of cases be undertaken. Supervision can be seen as a form of quality control, ensuring that therapeutic standards are maintained. I attend at least fortnightly.

Confidentiality and access to case notes
The trust between client and therapist is crucial to the success of the therapeutic process and I treat all information disclosed as confidential. Any details my Supervisor receives are also treated as such and we do not disclose information to any third party without the client's permission. However, if in my opinion a client is either a danger to himself or herself or to others I do reserve the right to inform appropriate agencies. In addition, confidentiality can only be offered within accepted legal boundaries.

It is my practice wherever possible to inform the client first should confidentiality need to be breached. I keep brief notes on our work together which you are entitled to see at any time if you so wish. I do not offer a court service, so if you are attending counselling in lieu of a pending court case, then please access another service.
