Geoman is a geotechnical consultancy that provides advice to civil & structural engineers, architects and developers on all aspects of subsoil behaviour. Free site visits and preliminary designs are offered to allow geotechnical solutions to be costed. Geoman employs qualified Geotechnical Engineers with local experience. Certified designs, stability analysis and monitoring services are also available.

For new developments with adopted roads or retaining walls near an existing road Geoman can offer TAS application services for Roads Service approval and Geotechnical Certification of slopes.

For new developments where planners have stipulated maximum storm outflow levels Geoman can provide sustainable urban drainage solutions such as Permeable Paving designs. Permeable paving is environmentally friendly and sustainable because it reduces flash floods by retaining storm water on site for as long as possible after the storm event. Most of our designs are based on infiltration into the natural subsoils with stone layers to filter contaminants. Monitoring services allow the degradation of contaminants to be assessed during service.

Where possible, Geoman uses recycled excavated clay fills and demolition rubble in solutions combined with soil reinforcement. With the advent of quarry tax on imported stone and high dumping costs the successful reuse of fills is a valuable and sustainable design service.

Geoman also provides a design service for fibre reinforced concrete solutions. Many traditional reinforced concrete applications are overdesigned with unnecessary steel reinforcement. Steel fibre reinforcement uses recycled steel for crack control and some flexural strengthening.

2005 local projects where Geoman has assisted include major landslide analysis and monitoring in Enniskillen and Ballymoney, permeable paving for a retail park in Carrickmines and retaining wall remediation works in Co. Leitrim and Drogheda. Geoman also has projects throughout Europe and overseas.
