Moments of stillness, subtlety, snatches of serenity- captured and framed- best describe Dawn Mitchell's work. Drawing from nature, her mixed media pieces reflect the ever present, the ever changing; donegal on a clear day, the barren burren, the breathy feel and rustle of the west wind....catching these fleeting moments we so often miss is the constant inspiration and life force behind each piece.
Creamy linens provide a canvas backdrop for ephemeral subtle tones. Chiffon clouds, silk sand dunes and pebble anchors with occasional inflections of cerise or thunder blue combine to form the perfect piece to complement contemporary living spaces. Affordable art for today's lives, a foil for the frantic.
"My art is not something I choose to do- it is part of me- it drives me-it is something I must do, everyday- just like breathing."
"Raindrops on leaves, watercolour skies, bare trees in winter. Intriguing subjects are all around- ever present- ever changing, but in this ever busy world, we barely notice it. This is part of the reason why I try to capture these fleeting moments of life through painting and embroidery- a moment to absorb- a moment to appreciate again & again.
