Why you should choose an OFTEC registered technician?

Whether you are selecting a technician to give your oil boiler, cooker or stove its annual service, or planning a much bigger project - you will want to ensure that you employ the best person for the job. I am an experienced technician who has been trained on modern, high efficiency appliances, who can give you sound advice when necessary, and whom you can trust to carry out the work properly.

OFTEC Registered Technicians:

Are individually trained at an OFTEC Approved Training Centre, and their skills independently assessed before they can apply for OFTEC Registration. Registered Technicians have their work inspected from time to time by an OFTEC Inspector.
Will carry an identity card confirming the type of oil heating work for which they are registered.  And will leave with you a written statement of the work they have done on your appliance, replacement parts fitted and recommendations for work needed in the future.

Corgi Registered Engineers are the only persons legally allowed to work with gas, and service appliances.

Gas Installation
services include:
  • Tracing and repairs of gas escapes
  • New gas pipework installation
  • Gas fire installation and servicing
  • Gas cooker installation and servicing

Common faults:
The following are just some common examples of faulty appliances, it is not an exhaustive list and at all times we recommend your appliances are regularly inspected.

Faults indicating a Gas fire requires servicing:

Flames appear irregular or yellow -(flame effect fires require particular attention)
Smell of fumes or gas - (turn off gas at gas bottles or meter).
Damaged coals or radiants
Stains or smoke marks around the fire
Failure to ignite on first light
Pilot goes out repeatedly or fails to light easily

Faults indicating a cooker requires servicing:

Flames appear irregular or yellow.
Flames appear to lift off the burner or a roaring sound is heard.
Smell of fumes or gas - (turn off gas at the gas meter or at gas bottles).
Flame from burner is uncontrollable
Stains or smoke marks around the oven door
Failure to ignite on first light
Pilot goes out repeatedly or fails to light easily

Annual servicing why bother?

Gas appliances need regular servicing to ensure your safety, that the appliance is operating efficiently and as a requirement of Gas regulations; which recommend a regular schedule of maintenance is carried out. Manufacurers also recommend annual servicing and often forms part of their guarantee.

A regular boiler service can prevent breakdowns and expensive repair costs.. Don't just take our word for it!!!! "Be safe, ensure your oil and gas appliances are checked for safety annually, and only employ a CORGI or OFTEC registered engineer to install any gas or oil appliance. Don't try to save on safety. You may end up paying for more." CORGI

"All gas consumers are advised to have appliances checked for safety at least every 12 months by a CORGI or OFTEC registered installer." Health & Safety Officer.
