About Barnacle Books

  • Barnacle: arguably our most beautiful goose and a winter visitor mainly to western coasts and marine islands of Ireland
  • Nora Barnacle: companion of 37 years to James Joyce author of Ulysses, the novel in which he immortalised the day of their walking out together Dublin, 16 June 1904

Barnacle Books was formed in 2002 by Ken Harron, for many years an enthusiastic collector of quality books. Initially offering for sale titles from his own notable collection accumulated over some 25 years, with the acquisition of several private libraries the number of books has grown and current facilities allow for stock levels to be maintained at around 5000 titles.

Specialising in out of print and secondhand books relating to Ireland, Barnacle Books provides books on Irish Angling, Irish Architecture, Irish Art, Irish Biographies, Irish Children’s, Irish Fiction, Irish Folklore, Irish History, Irish Military History, Irish Civil War, Northern Ireland Troubles, Irish Natural History, Irish Poetry, Irish Politics, Scots-Irish, Irish Topography including Donegal books, and Irish Transport. General books on many subjects are also available with a good range of titles featuring Modern First Editions, Science Fiction, Signed books and an attractive Antiquarian section.

Occasional catalogues are issued with selected titles at all price levels. Confidentiality is assured and a no obligation to buy policy is operated for books sourced. Every endeavour is made to trace those elusive titles for busy people who do not otherwise have the opportunity or the time – Barnacle Books are Happy to Help.

Whilst most of the business is by mail order visitors are always welcome to come and browse the stock – private premises so visits subject to appointment to ensure the Bookroom is open – a personal viewing in pleasant surroundings awaits.

Barnacle Books offers a wide selection of fine out of print and secondhand books especially those relating to Ireland, all supplied with the emphasis on customer care.  For the opportunity to view the titles available at Barnacle Books please click on the following links:
